If you’ve been following my RV journey, you know my mission is all about teaching, sharing, and experiencing this life in a way that empowers others in their own journeys. This can look like DIY maintenance, finding your community on the road, or even just entering the lifestyle.

Recently, I had the great honor of being featured on not just one, but three incredible RV podcasts — each with a unique perspective on RV life, outdoor adventures, and building inclusive spaces in the RV community. We had so many great conversations that were jam-packed with laughter, curiosity, and valuable insight.

I wanted to share these experiences with you, give a proper shoutout to the amazing hosts, and reflect on some key lessons from each unique conversation. If you’re looking for your next favorite RV podcast, these three should definitely be on your radar.

LGBTQ Outdoors Podcast – Finding Freedom on the Dusty Trail
Hosts: Justin Yoder & Patrick Thompson

The LGBTQ Outdoors Podcast is all about representation, inclusivity, and creating safe spaces for queer outdoor enthusiasts. I don’t often get to discuss the ways that the LGBTQ community intersects with the RV community, so this was a great way to examine that.

Some of the topics we discussed include:

  • My background as a former firefighter, medic, rescuer, and emergency management professional.
  • The personal upheaval that led me to sell my home and transition to that full-time RV life.
  • How minimalism, self-reliance, and DIY skills can empower anyone to embrace a life like this.
  • Challenges of a solo LGBTQ traveler in a space that is often dominated by straight couples.

Above all, we must remember that representation is important in every part of our lives, and RV spaces should be welcoming to all. I shared how I’ve encountered both supportive and challenging spaces within the RV community, and why it’s critical that platforms like LGBTQ Outdoors exist.

If you’re someone who’s ever wondered if RV life is for you but worried about acceptance, safety, or visibility, this podcast offers a refreshing, real perspective.

StressLess Camping Podcast – Yes, You CAN Conquer Your Own RV Repairs
Hosts: Tony & Peggy Barthel

Unfortunately, RV life isn’t always stress-free, but Tony and Peggy at StressLess Camping work hard to make it easier for RVers of all backgrounds and experience. They bring a wealth of knowledge, insight, and a refreshing down-to-earth approach to navigating the RV life.

Some of the topics we discussed include:

  • My upbringing on a farm provided the foundation and confidence I needed to tackle RV repairs.
  • Essential safety tips for RVers who face wild weather, hurricanes, and common emergencies.
  • How important it is to understand your RV system — plumbing, propane, electrical — even if you’re new to RVing.
  • How building self-sufficiency skills can help reduce stress and costly repairs.

Additionally, we talked about the insecurity and lack of confidence that exist in the RV space and that we have to work as a community to overcome intimidation, especially when dealing with maintenance tasks. Some RV repairs can be so daunting, and I know that it can be hard for women to enter a space where resources sometimes feel male-dominated or gatekept.

One of my favorite lessons to learn and to SHARE is that: Confidence is built by doing. Even the simplest maintenance tasks in your RV can lead to a growing sense of empowerment.

RV Out West – Adventures, Lessons, and New Beginnings
Host: Brooks Smothers

My conversation with Brooks on RV Out West felt a lot like sitting around a campfire swapping stories. He has a fantastic podcast that focuses on the RV lifestyle in the Pacific Northwest.

We chatted about:

  • Leaving my 120-year-old home behind to embrace RV life.
  • The freedom, financial benefits, and surprises of living full-time in an RV.
  • My favorite Pacific Northwest adventures — hiking Mount Shasta, exploring Oregon’s hot springs, and wandering around some of Washington’s beautiful trails.

He asked me the difficult question of where my favorite PNW spot to visit was and it was very hard to pick just one!

Why RV Podcasts Matter

RV Podcasts are a great way to learn, stay connected, and gain new perspectives. They are great for the community, whether you are new to the lifestyle or seasoned by many years on the road. Tuning into a good RV podcast can offer:

  • Practical tips from very seasoned road warriors.
  • Honest conversations about the highs and lows of life on the road.
  • Connection to the broader RV community.
  • Inspiration to do the things you’ve been wanting to do.

RV life evolves, just like everything else. Podcasts are able to provide a window into the many different ways of doing things — from boondocking and budget hacks to DIY maintenance and community building.

I’ve also found that RV podcasts are an incredible resource for those considering alternative housing solutions. With rising housing costs, many people actually are exploring RV life as a more affordable option for life. It obviously comes with challenges, and that is why podcasts are a gold mine of knowledge.

These three shows — LGBTQ Outdoors, StressLess Camping, and RV Out West — each bring something unique to the table, and I’m grateful to have been part of their conversations.
